Lyrics.

I've been looking for Broken Records lyrics for a while now, more specifically the end of Thoughts On A Picture (In A Paper, January 2009) (you know the bit). Can anybody help?

  • I think the lyric goes "If the righteous steal your bones..." but this is up for debate. I've also heard people say they thought it was the following:-

"If the rapture steal your bones"

"If the Russians steal your bones" (Actually, I joked that this was the correct lyric but never actually believed that it was)

"If the rats should steal your bones"

I've asked the lads the correct lyric myself but never got a reply....

I dunno if this is any help to you?

  • Oh, actually - while we're on the subject of lyrics, I'd like to know how the lyric on Slow Parade goes - is it "dragging my unwell feet onto the stage", or "dragging my underwhelmed feet onto the stage" or something completely different?

  • Mmmm.. i sort of put my money on the cd i bought online.. a lyricsbooklet was on my mind..but reading this question means it will not be there.. since i live in the Netherlands and dutch is my 1st language it is even harder for me to hear what is said..
Good idea would be to put up the lyrics on this site :)

    • Yes, that would be a great idea. I have to say that I myself am not word-perfect with any of the songs I don't think - I will probably make some errors, but I'd be willing to give it a shot. :)

You'll find that the album artwork does actually incorporate the lyrics for And They All Fell Into The Sea, but yeah, there's no lyrics book really.

    • So, here we go, Patrick91 - just for you, what I'm now pretty sure are the correct lyrics to Slow Parade. :)

      The slow parade drudges on
      A big wheel dances
      As the neon lights
      Illuminate the sky

      Your hand in mine
      Dragging my *unwilling* feet
      Onto the stage
      Where the others wait

      And here come the drums
      And the beat
      We're dancing to the tune
And I can feel her breathe
      Hold her close to me

      The sun could die
      The moon could fall
      The stars could rip apart
      It doesn't matter now
      All time has stopped
      Consigned to memory
All the joy that's in our hearts

      Don't give up
      Don't concede
      On your only heartache
      Don't give up
      Don't concede
      On your only heartache

      The slow parade
      Drudges on
      A kaleidascope of memories
      She stays with me
      Til the music stops...

Please feel free to correct me if I got any of the above lyrics wrong - Slow Parade is my personal favourite closely followed by Nearly Home and I'm always (trying to) sing it - would be better if I was singing the correct words. =P

  • unwilling feet :0)

  • I like "if the Russians steal your bones", it sounds like some sort of bizarre cold-war spy reference and from now on that is what the line will be in my mind.

I don't think there is a definitive here to be honest. Jamie won't tell me... :(

  • We're dancing to the tune...

    or

    We're dancing toe to toe?

otherwise, good job Emz, care to give Nearly Home a shot?

    • Ah! "Toe to toe" - I've just listened to the album version of Slow Parade again and that is quite clearly the lyric. I'm more used to the Broken Records EP version though - that's not quite as clear. I did say "correct me if I'm wrong"... See? This thread's gonna be an education for everyone. =P

So... you seem to be pretty up on the lyrics, EBeast - is giving Nearly Home a shot some kinda test??? =P ;)

Well, never let it be said that I'm not up to a challenge. Nearly Home is gonna be trickier though. Here goes:-

      And oh my dear
      I have a good idea
Let's lay these bones to rest
Build it all over start again
      Coz I know
That if you dare to hope
That if you dare to try
To rebuild the pieces of your life
      Then you'll find
The things you held so dear
The things you held so close
      Were never ever really yours
      And what's left
      That vacuous empty shell
      Is ready to be refilled
With all the love you should have had

      And rip it up
      Rip it all apart
This place that our parents built
We'll let all burn down to the ground
Coz I'm tired of these suited lies
      Of policies made to break
Words that you'll never ever shake

      We are nearly home
      And we're nearly home
      And we're nearly home
      And we're nearly home
      And we're nearly home

      We're nearly home
      And we're nearly home
      And we're nearly home
      And we're nearly home
      And we're nearly home

      And oh my dear
      I had a good idea
Let's lay these bones to rest
Build it all over start again

      • well done again Emz!

        wasn't a test, but if twas... A- :)

the only part I cannot quite get clearly is

"Coz I'm tired of these suited lies
        Of policies made to break
Words that you'll never ever shake"

could be correct; I had interpreted it as

"Coz I'm tired of these cheating locks
        Of policies made to break
n wars that you'll never ever shake"

        -- vacuous empty shell

  • Yeah, that was the part that got me to - I did mean to put a question mark on the end of the suited lies bit coz I'm still not sure about that. I did kinda cheat and listen to Nearly Home about a dozen times while I was posting that, so I'm pretty sure about the rest of it, but as far as "suited lies"/"cheating locks" I'm definitely open to suggestions coz I really was pretty much guessing.

So - your turn then. If The News Makes You Sad. Go for your life. :)

    • I would say "suited liars" myself. But again I am no authority on the subject although I really should be - cymbals make you a bit cotton-woolly around the ears you know! And I never get vocals in my monitor as I am easily confused...

And that's any semblance of "cover" blown for me! Although tbh there wasn't really meant to be any!

      • I had an inkling you belonged to the band when you said Jamie wouldn't tell you what the correct lyric was on Thoughts On A Picture"... and then I clicked that the AK in "AK47" could stand for Andrew Keeney...and then when you started the topic about your bed collapsing that really was your "cover blown" as far as I was concerned - dunno bout anyone else. :):):)

And "suited liars" could be right - you may not be an authority, but you prolly know a heck of a lot better than me?

  • Great :) (btw..i got this nice cd yesterday)..
Just call me Patrick or Pat.. the 91 is there because i just had to add a number at a certain point in time.. and it is still there.. not my age of date of birth..
Keep up the lyric-thing! Maybe the band could be helpfull?

    • I'm not sure about that, Pat - I know there is already one perosn on here I know without a shadow of a doubt belongs to the band, but as Jamie the frontman is the only one who actually sings the lyrics, he'd probably be the best one to help and seeing as how he's not letting on about the correct lyric in Thoughts On A Picture.... :)

      • 1? I'd say there's atleast defo two... Haha. Good god, I feel like such a geek ;-)

        • I know, but I'm saying I only know *for sure* there is one - he totally blew his cover if he was ever sposed to have any. :D I have an inkling about one of the others too, but if I'm right I'm not sure which of the other 6 lads it might be.

  • Small retraction here guys - the artwork for the album does not incorporate the lyrics for And They All Fell Into the Sea at all, rather those of A Promise. Silly me. :P

  • OK you may have met me at the merch stall at a gig sometime, yes, it's me, the devilishly handsome man taking your hard earned pennies off you ! Lyrics I might be able to help with having listened to A LOT of them playing live and on record :0)

    • Hahaha Yeah, hello! Laura had said she thought it might be you. Are you bringing lots of new goodies to the Edinburgh gig on the 17th? I miss my Broken Records lighter/bottle opener. I dunno what happened to it. It ran outta gas then kinda went walkies. :(

    • Haahaaaaa. My poster-nicking partner-in-crime!!

  • Hi, I was wondering if anyone could help me with the lyrics to If Eilert Loevborg.. I love it, but I can't quite figure out all they sing.

I got this so far (thanks in advance):

    Come on, hither
you know you made your bed
    You claim a bleeding heart
    will *??????*
so if you'd stay for love
oh won't you stay for love? oh, oh

    I write these letters
    from a certain pain
    I let the ink flow
like the blood from my veins
and if you'd stay for love
oh, you won't you stay for love? oh, oh

Now, won't you *send it over* (?)
Just to *say you care* (?)
'Cause, I don't wanna write it
if you don't wanna read it
    If you gotta go,
    won't you take with you
    my loneliness?

    And does your husband know
    the lies that we've kept?
and if he ever felt that warmth from your bed
and if you stayed for love
oh won't you stay for love?

Now, won't you *send it over* (?)
Just to *say you care* (?)
'Cause, I don't wanna write it
if you don't wanna read it
    If you gotta go,
then won't you take with you
    my loneliness?

You know you come to me at night
    when it's cold
You know the *loss of love* (?)
with your hands around my throat
And wont you stay for love?
oh won't you stay my life?

Now, won't you *send it over* (?)
Just to *say you care* (?)
'Cause, I don't wanna write it
if you don't wanna read it
    If you gotta go,
    won't you take with you
    my loneliness?
Take with you my loneliness x 3

    Aah!

    :)

  • so far so good you did it. that was helpfull enough for me cause i could understand almost nothing. thanks

  • (Most of) the lyrics for "If Eilert Loevborg Wrote a Song, It Would Sound Like This":

    Come on, Hedda,
you know you've made your bed
    You claim a bleeding heart
    will *??????*
so if you'd stay for love
    Would you stay for love?

    I write these letters
    from my cellar of pain
    I let the ink flow
like the blood from my veins
and if you'd stay for love
oh, you won't you stay for love?

And won't you send a note
Or just a sign you care
'Cause, I don't wanna write it
if you don't wanna read it
    If you gotta go,
then won't you take with you
    my loneliness?

    And does your husband know
    the lies that we've kept?
and has he ever felt that warmth from your bed?
and if you stayed for love
oh won't you stay for love?

Now, won't you send a note
Or just a sign you care
'Cause, I don't wanna write it
if you don't wanna read it
    If you gotta go,
then won't you take with you
    my loneliness?

You know you come to me at night
    when it's cold
Do you know the loves I've lost
from your hands around my throat?
    Won't you stay for love?
    Oh, won't you stay for?

And if you send a note
Or just a sign you care
'Cause, I don't wanna write it
if you don't wanna read it
    If you gotta go,
then won't you take with you
    my loneliness?
Take with you my loneliness x 3

  • Is Hedda a name? :)
    Thanks for the corrections, also.

  • I always thought it was Heather: "Now come on Heather".

    • Hedda is Hedda Tesman, maiden name Gabler, from the play “Hedda Gabler” (1890) by Henrik Ibsen. Eilert Loevborg (Ejlert Løvborg in the original manuscript) is a character in the play. He is Hedda's old partner, and is now (in the play) seeing Thea Elvsted, who is Heddas husband George (Jørgen) Tesman's old partner. Hedda contributes to Eilert's death, by destroying a manuscript that is very precious to him, and by supplying him with a gun so that he can kill himself.

  • love the lyrics.. why not just post them all up here guys???????

Just a reply to let you know i am still here :)

  • If Eliert wrote a song... ohhh that one's real wicked!!.. I've found this song while I'm doing little bit research on . Cuz, this 'brilliant' play is what my drama class group is working on now for final project! Well... I thought the relationship between Hedda & Eilert was... not exactly love... surely...nor companionship.....Anyhow, the idea beneath this song is awesome!!

  • “A Promise” – Broken Records

On this hill top, I buried you
    As a younger man,
We gathered round your empty house
And spoke of how you were so loved,
And as the sun died I promised I
    Would you seek you out,
And now the years have withered me
And soon I’ll claim you for my arms again,

And if our hearts are destined here,
And if our bones, they crumble to the soil
Then all our love will rise again
And we'll float out to the sea

  • Some of that was worth correcting, so:

    “A Promise” – Broken Records

On this hill top, I buried you
    As a younger man,
We gathered round your empty house
And spoke of how you were so loved,
And as the sun died I promised
    I Would seek you out,
And now the years have withered me
And soon I’ll claim you for my arms again,

And if our hearts are destined here,
And if our bones, they crumble to the soil
Well all our love will rise again

And if our hearts are destined here,
And if our bones, they crumble to the soil
Then all our love will rise again
And we'll float out to the sea

  • thanks Dana !! I was looking for the lyrics, I've just discovered Broken Records thanks to the last Skins episod.

  • LIES

So, out of line with the stars in the sky
With our feet wet of dew,
We will sing, me and you
With your hands on my chest
Saying ‘I loved you the best’
    And kiss me, kiss me,
    Oh…

Take you hands from my hands
    Close the door, silently
In an hour or so, you’ll kiss your husband’s lips
    In the fleeting remorse
You know it's the pain that’s so good
    And kiss me
    Kiss me, oh…

And if you want me to lie
    Then I'll lie, I don't mind X2
    'Cause you're telling me

    Jagged thorns
    Cut my lips
make them pale, make them bleed
Burst your face down my chest
And save your tears for someone good
Did you think this was love?
Did you think you're the first?
    Then kiss me, kiss me,
    Oh…

And if you want me to lie
    Then I'll lie, I don't mind X2
    'Cause you're telling me x4

    -----------------
I also have most of the words of Wolves & If the news make you sad...
But I'm still figuring out some of the words ^^

  • Cheers GiGi! I like this song a lot!

  • hello all, met jamie a couple of times and he told me he doesnt like speaking about lyrics lol and i tried to get him drunk but didnt work :( but here is my guess to some of the songs. they mite b a bit wrong but correct away :)

    lovers'pact

    and she came to me
    under the stars
    and we were running from
    are parents scars
    and with tired eyes
    we watched the skies
    and she says to me..

    ah no no no no

    and we made a pact
    to end it all

    and we tied the stones
    on to our souls
    and into the sea
    she follows me
    and she says to me

    ah no no no no

and then i give myself away

    and she came to me
    under the stars
    and we watched the sea
    swalllow the land
    and with tired eyes
    we watched the skies

  • If Eilert Loevborg wrote a song, it would sound like this

come on heather you know you've made your bed
you claim a bleeding heart but stone doesn't melt
so if you'd stay for, love
oh wont you stay for love

i write these letters from my sudden pain
i let the ink flow like the blood from my vains
and if you'd stay for, love
oh wont you stay for love

and wont you, send a note out just to say you care
cause I, dont want to write it if you, dont want to read it if you
gotta go then wont you take with you my loneliness

and does your husband know the lies that we've kept
and has he ever felt that warmth from your bed
and if you'd stay for, love
oh wont you stay for love

    and wont you, send.....

d'you know you come to me at night when it's cold
d'you know the loves I've lost from your hands round my throat
and wont you stay for love
and wont you state my LIVE

    and wont you....
